Defending Australia’s Wild Heritage
The Land Project is a dedicated initiative by SSE 2024 Inc. to protect Australia’s Brumbies by establishing a safe, natural haven where these iconic wild horses can thrive undisturbed. The project also complements other initiatives, including re-homing efforts, while supporting a holistic approach to their welfare. Through education, limited visitor experiences, and ongoing documentation, the Land Project seeks to preserve the heritage of the Brumbies and foster a deeper understanding of their significance, ensuring their freedom and legacy endure for future generations.
Our Brumbies Are In Danger.
In the heart of Kosciuszko, New South Wales, Brumbies, the living essence of Australia’s colonial heritage, are facing a threat that could sever the lineage of one of the country’s most treasured and iconic bloodlines. The continued culling have placed these wild horses in grave danger, diminishing their numbers and jeopardising the survival of their family mobs.
Silver Springs Equine 2024 Inc (SSE2024 Inc) is taking the reins to preserve these beautiful horses, dedicated to creating a place where Brumbies can live as they have always done, in freedom, surrounded by family.
And We Have the Power to Help.
The Land Project is Monumental.
This campaign is historic, a lifeline for the Brumbies. It isn’t about establishing a ‘sanctuary’ in the traditional sense, nor is it a tourism destination where these wild horses become the spectacle.
Instead, The Land Project will create a safe haven where Brumbies can continue their lives undisturbed in their natural family structures. Stallions, mares, foals, and yearlings, all the bonds that make up their rich social tapestry, will find protection here, grounded in the principle of preserving their freedom and heritage, not altering their legacy.
At its heart, this vision is about letting these Brumbies just be: to live in a protected environment where they can flourish, free to maintain their natural way of life and family bonds. The Land Project represents a bold and meaningful step toward this vision, inspired by a growing public desire to see these wild horses flourish in an environment that honours their heritage, preserves their freedom, and allows them to thrive as a vital part of Australia’s cultural heritage.
See Wild Brumbies Up Close
On select occasions, we may offer small group tours, allowing guests a rare, respectful glimpse into their world, a privilege, not a tourist commodity. Onsite accommodation will support visitors during these special events, creating an immersive experience to connect visitors to the Brumbies’ enduring spirit.
Care for the Brumbies
Additionally, The Land Project will include a specialised area for orphaned foals, a place where they can receive care and protection until they are ready to return to the preserve. Looking forward, we also plan to incorporate a veterinary facility on-site, equipped to welcome visiting veterinarians as needed, ensuring the best possible care for any Brumby in need.
Our Discovery Centre
The extensive documentation by Ian and Michelle Brown will form the heart of our Discovery Centre, a space dedicated to presenting the Brumbies’ story with authenticity and respect, celebrating their significance as part of Australia’s cultural and natural heritage.
This centre will serve as an inspiring hub for education, offering visitors the opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of these heritage horses, their history, their unique way of life, and their enduring connection to the Australian landscape.
But we know that securing land is only the first step.
To truly defend the Brumbies’ legacy, we must reshape the narrative around them. SSE2024 Inc was founded by Ian and Michelle Brown, whose dedication to the Brumbies of Kosciuszko spans more than a decade. They are the soul of this mission, spending countless hours in the mountains documenting the lives of these wild horses.
Through their images and videos, they showcase the raw beauty and captivating presence of these wild horses, revealing the untold stories of their existence and their harmonious connection to the landscape.
This campaign is more than just a project. This is about never surrendering their freedom, it’s about ensuring their survival.
It is a testament to the Brumbies’ right to live in safety and freedom. Through The Land Project, we are creating a space that ensures their story continues, a living legacy where their natural bonds and way of life are protected. This is a vision that connects the past with the future, offering an opportunity for all to experience and appreciate the profound significance of these wild horses.
